1. Just finished my 30th year doing what I do for a living.  If you would have known me 30 years ago, you would have been shocked by my ignorance to who God really is and my total irreverence.  The point is getting to know Jesus is one step at a time and today is the day to take a step towards intimacy!!
   
2. We rode the AMTRAK California Zephyr to Colorado and back.  Between Glenwood Springs and Denver, we saw some amazing sights, one motivated my thoughts today!
   
3. Buts and tense changed my life and can radically change yours too!
   
4. As we were winding through the Rockies on our way home, we passed a campsite on the Colorado River with several tents, but to our surprise, a camper was all out mooning us!  And now you have a small glimpse into the random trails of my brain!!
   
5. The big buts of the Bible
   
   1. Law isn’t what it seems
      
      1. Galatians 2:14-16
         

But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?  We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

1. 1. 1. LAW came so we would sin MORE!!!
         
   2. Freedom is a big deal
      
      1. Galatians 2:4
         
      2. But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.
         
   3. Mercy and grace are HUGE
      
      1. Ephesians 2:4-7
         
      2. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
         
   4. Grace is sufficient for life
      
      1. 2 Corinthians 12:9
         
      2. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
         
   5. God’s love is UNCONDITIONAL
      
      1. Romans 5:8, 9
         
      2. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
         
      3. Ephesians 2:4,5
         
      4. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)
         
   6. You are highly favored
      
      1. Genesis 6:8
         
      2. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
         
   7. Position and appearance aren’t important
      
      1. Galatians 2:6
         
      2. But from those who were of high reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me.
         
      3. 1 Samuel 16:7
         
      4. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for [b]God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
         
   8. Knowing Him allows you to stand up!
      
      1. Acts 2:14
         
      2. But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.
         
2. Buts often expose tense
   
   1. ARE Jews, not sinners BY NATURE (Gal 2.15)
      
   2. HAVE liberty (Gal. 2.4)
      

1. BEING rich in mercy (Eph. 2.4)
   

1. He LOVED us (Eph. 2.4, Rom. 5.8)
   

1. we WERE dead (Eph. 2.5)
   

1. MADE us alive (Eph. 2.5)
   
2. RAISED us up (Eph. 2.6)
   
3. SEATED us in the heavenly places (Eph. 2.6)
   
4. HE MIGHT SHOW His kindness toward us (Eph. 2.7)
   
5. My GRACE IS Sufficient (2 Cor. 12.9)
   
6. DEMONSTRATES His love towards us (Rom. 5.8)
   
7. HAVING NOW BEEN JUSTIFIED (Rom. 5.9)
   
8. WILL BE SAVED from wrath (Rom. 5.9)
   
9. FOUND favor (Gen. 6.8) NOW is the Time of God’s FAVOR (2 Cor. 6.2)
   
10. SEES the Heart! (1 Sam. 16.7)
